It was a labor of love and hate spanning nine years (27,000 hours) and counting. Sixty-one-year-old Steve Waller hand-carved 50 municipal buildings and 300 terrace houses and painted more than 1 million tiny cobbles and roof tiles. While Waller’s endurance had been compared to that of Michelangelo's in the Sistine Chapel, his ultimate aim had never been that grand. “I just got my head down and kept going.”
