It was a labor of love and hate spanning nine years (27,000 hours) and counting. Sixty-one-year-old Steve Waller hand-carved 50 municipal buildings and 300 terrace houses and painted more than 1 million tiny cobbles and roof tiles. While Waller's endurance had been compared to that of Michelangelo's in the Sistine Chapel, his ultimate aim had never been that grand. I just got my head down and kept going.
