Convenience stores, which sell most gas purchased by US consumers, are looking ahead to the transition to electric vehicles. Industry giant 7-Eleven says it will install 500 direct-current fast charging ports at 250 locations across North America by the end of 2022. The convenience store company, which will own and operate the ports itself, currently has 22 charging stations at 14 stores across four states. Being located near highways and choosing to install DC fast chargers rather than slower level-2 chargers may give 7-Eleven an advantage over many existing charging stations, especially as newer vehicles can accept a wider range of charging rates.
