As the country reels from the second wave of the coronavirus, Indian companies are rallying to the support of their employees. Tata Steel, one of the oldest and largest companies in India, announced that employees who died of Covid will continue to get their last-drawn salary amount until what would have been their retirement age of 60. The company will continue the medical benefits and housing support for their families and will bear all the education expenses of their children until their graduation in India. "Tata Steel family stands stoically with all its people, committed to their security and well-being," according to the company’s statement. Hospitality group OYO Rooms and glass manufacturer Borosil have also announced similar, though shorter duration benefits for their employees’ families. At a time of so much hopelessness, this news will doubtless inspire people well beyond these corporate families.
