Klavons, an ice cream shop in Pittsburgh, Pa., was having trouble hiring workers. It decided to raise its minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 per hour. After raising their wages, they received more than 1,000 applications in a week, and they were able to fill the 16 positions practically overnight. They haven’t raised prices and haven’t had a problem with revenue for a few reasons. More customers are coming in to support the business because they are treating their employees well, and their costs are coming down because of reduced turnover. Other benefits the store is noticing include that employees come to work in a better mood and on time, given that now they only need to work one job.
