A woman who is recovering from a liver transplant not only has a new lifesaving organ, but one that made history. That’s thanks to Cecil Lockhart from West Virginia, who died at age 95, making him the oldest organ donor is US history. Lockhart was inspired to be an organ donor by his son, Stanley, who impacted many lives through his tissue donation. “When my brother was a donor after he passed away a few years ago, it helped my dad to heal,” said Sharon White, Lockhart’s daughter. While many people believe there is an age limit associated with being an organ donor, David Klassen, chief medical officer for the United Network for Organ Sharing, said no one is too young or too old. “Every potential donor is evaluated on a case-by-case basis at the time of their death to determine which organs and tissues are suitable for donation,” Klassen said.
