The Salvation Army's Bed & Bread soup kitchens have paired up with mobile care teams consisting of two nurses and a peer support specialist to take food and Covid-19 vaccines to Detroit's poorest communities. Through the program, more than 40 people have been vaccinated in three weeks. The trucks will return to administer the second shot, and that shot will also be available at the Central City Integrated Health facility. "The timing and the need could not be greater," Jamie Winkler, executive director of the Salvation Army's Eastern Michigan Harbor Light System told the Associated Press. In light of the city's low vaccination rate, the program hopes to bridge the gap.
