When a friend asked Zimbabwean filmmaker Tawanda Kanhema to show his mother's house on a map, he knew he couldn't go online and see it on Google Street View because Harare hadn't yet been mapped. Google sent a film crew to document his solutions for filming challenging areas. He has since helped map Namibia and Northern Ontario -- and that matters, he says, because people use maps nowadays not just to find places but to tell stories.
