When Marriam Ahmad went into the Grange hospital in Cwmbran, UK, in January after testing positive for Covid, she left her overnight bag at home as she did not expect to be in for long. She was 29 weeks pregnant, and she and her husband had not yet even decided on a name for their child. At the hospital, her condition quickly went downhill. Doctors notified her they would have to deliver the child by Caesarean section and then told her that she might not survive the operation. Needless to say, when Marriam woke up the next day no longer pregnant, she was confused. Her baby, a girl who was eventually named Khadija, survived and was in good health. Marriam is grateful that both she and Khadija are alive and healthy and said, "Make the most of every opportunity and be grateful -- that's what I've taken from it."
