She might have flunked guide dog school but Buffy the yellow Labrador retriever can ably sniff out Covid-19 at the Florida hospital where she works. Part of a four-dog pilot program for scent detection, she could almost always detect inactive virus samples after three months' training. After only a few weeks on screening duty at the hospital, she found her first live case: a person without symptoms whose illness was confirmed by a test. Buffy is believed to be the only Covid-19 detection dog working at a US hospital so far.
