When Dallas tax attorney Mark Melton posted advice last year for people facing eviction during the pandemic, he got so many calls that he recruited help. More than 175 attorneys have so far helped him aid more than 6,000 people. A quarter million people in Texas and more than 4 million people nationwide face eviction or foreclosure in the next two months. Melton is helping address a disparity surfaced by the pandemic: A recent survey in 20 cities showed 81 percent of landlords had attorneys, while only 3 percent of tenants do.
