South Australia, with almost half its electricity coming from rooftop solar, saw the average daytime wholesale price drop below zero in the first quarter, and this should eventually reduce consumer power bills. However, due to the low wholesale price, the regulator had to order some distributed solar to be "switched off" at times to keep the power grid stable. Such intervention won't be needed once new synchronous condensers are switched on in the coming months.
