By the end of 2025, Australia will phase out eight types of problematic 'single use' plastic including bags, straws, utensils and stirrers, polystyrene packaging, and micro beads in personal care items. Australia produces 2.5 tonnes of plastic waste each year and most ends up in landfill. As well as defining what its previously-agreed ban will cover, Australia's environment ministers agreed to look into collecting organic food and garden waste and harmonizing municipal waste collection.
