Researchers have developed an ultra-white paint that cools buildings more effectively than any other paint and thus could help cool the earth by cutting air-conditioning needs. The paint cools surfaces by 4.5C below the ambient temperature, even in strong sunlight, which other currently available paints cannot do. While more testing is planned, the paint could be available in one to two years. White roofs have been used for cooling for centuries.
