People are seeing more stars at night, possibly because lockdowns have changed night-time habits, say two UK groups who monitor light pollution with yearly surveys. During International Dark Sky Week in February, citizen scientists reported seeing more stars in the Orion constellation than a year earlier, and some saw more than in 2013. Turning lights off in unoccupied office buildings and using LED lights to illuminate walkways can help keep skies darker at night and thus aid insects and wildlife, the groups say.
