Struggling to keep students on task during the pandemic has been a challenge in Wayne Township, near Indianapolis, but schools are tackling the problem by calling on bus drivers to help. Erica Woods is one employee who has been enlisted to provide a wide range of support to students. She is part surrogate mom, part college-prep guide and part cheerleader for graduating seniors. Many teens have had difficulty staying engaged while switching to and from virtual, hybrid and in-person classrooms. Wendy Skibinski, the county's director of college and career readiness, told Chalkbeat Indiana, "We had to think about how we were going to accelerate the class of 2021 and get them up to speed." Turning to bus drivers has provided a viable solution.
