Europeans who lived 45,000 years ago are closely related to ancient and living East Asians and native peoples of the Americas, according to DNA analysis of bones found in a Bulgarian cave in 2015. But these earliest modern Europeans were replaced by later migrations and have little relation to today's Europeans. Another surprising finding was the extensive mixing between Neanderthals and early Europeans -- all of the latter had Neanderthal ancestors six or fewer generations back.
