Prisoners in Maryland state prisons can now enroll in a bachelor's degree program offered by Georgetown University, expanding the university's long history of prison education. The Georgetown Prisons and Justice Initiative currently has more than 150 people enrolled in a Prison Scholars Program at the District of Columbia prison. Maryland applicants, who must have a high school diploma or GED, will be evaluated through both admissions exams and interviews. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has provided funding.
