Once upon a time, when the Covid-19 vaccines were first starting to be distributed, the state governments and drug store chains set up websites to book appointments that were so glitchy and maddeningly hard to use that many people despaired. Then, like magic, the vaccine fairies appeared. One vaccine fairy featured in this story, Zulay Beltran, lost her grandmother to Covid-19 in April of 2020. Beltran said, I think about how hard it would have been for her to schedule an appointment if there had been a vaccine at the time. She would have wanted me to help others. I think we've learned a lot about community, about being part of a community and who is being forgotten. This is how we keep each other safe, said Sam Mueller, another vaccine fairy.
