The Australian government has proposed a revolutionary plan to get rid of most plastic that is polluting the environment today. An important inclusion in the plan is to ban all "biodegradable"-labeled plastic. Due to lack of stringent laws, the term 'biodegradable' has been flouted around to mean quite a few things. Most plastic labeled as such could simply be degradable (like all other plastic) or oxo-degradable (chemically reduced) but leave tiny fragments as residue that still pollute the environment. Imposing a ban on this misleading subset of plastic lowers the risk of plastic pollution considerably.
