Emily Johnson of Austin, Texas had a problem: she was scheduled for open heart surgery but needed a COVID-19 vaccine before she could travel for her surgery. She was spending an hour a day trying to get signed up on various lists and then posted on Nextdoor.com, asking neighbors for vaccine leads or suggestions. Enter Christy Lewis, who was eligible for the vaccine because of an autoimmune condition. Lewis offered to give up her vaccination appointment to Johnson. When the clinic wouldn't agree to change the appointment to Johnson's name, Lewis met Johnson at the office and ensured Lewis got the vaccine. Lewis said, She needed it, and I wanted to give it to her. There was no question in my mind. You just know when it feels right, and this felt right to me.
