Environmental pollution disproportionately harms Black, Indigenous and other communities of color. In South Carolina and many parts of the country, nonwhite Americans suffer a lack of clean drinking water. A company called SOURCE is deploying solar-powered hydropanels in South Carolina and other parts of the country to allow communities more control over their water quality and enhance self-sufficiency in the event of an emergency. These hydropanels harvest water from the air by absorbing water vapor and condensing it using solar energy, giving the community guaranteed access to clean water.
