Catherine Barrett, of Melbourne Australia, says that a neighbor's small act of kindness was what sparked a now-global movement focused on all things good. Watching as neighbors panicked and locked themselves inside their homes at the onset of the pandemic, Barrett was struck by a neighbor's act of leaving chocolates out on a shared table in her apartment complex. Those chocolates were the spark that inspired Barrett to create a Facebook page focused on other kindly acts FROM around the world; she named it The Kindness Pandemic. It just felt like something really positive to grab a hold of. The alternative for me was being in a world that was full of coronavirus, said Barrett. More than 500,000 joined in less than a month. They all shared stories of acts of kindness. The movement grew and in different places began organizing acts of kindness for individuals and communities. From Australia to Michigan, Oakland and New York, Kindness Pandemic members did their best to hold onto hope and inspire acts of kindness. Several `member`s say this is how they got through the pandemic.
