Every year on Christmas since 1940, members of a shelter in Vancouver have served food to the homeless and underhoused. In 2019, 3,000 people received Christmas meals at six locations across the city. This year, even a pandemic can't stop their meal offering. Over four days and across three locations, the group is serving up thousands of meals to go. Last weekend, 1,400 people received meals from volunteers geared up in personal protective equipment. "There are a lot of new faces, in part due to the pandemic and the ongoing opioids crisis and the affordability crisis," noted Nicole Mucci, spokeswoman for the Union Gospel Mission. "There is a pandemic, but we're still finding ways to celebrate."
