After seeing her mother's hard work as a nurse during the pandemic, Christine Danderand created the Adopt A Nurse program, where members of the public can thank nurses and other healthcare workers. She created a Facebook group, thinking her friends would see it and "adopt," but the group has grown to more than 12,000 members in just over three weeks, and hundreds of health care workers have been adopted. As part of signing up to the group, healthcare workers share an Amazon wish list. Appreciative citizens then send gifts to their adopted healthcare workers, helping to give them support and the motivation to go back to work and face another difficult day. The gifts have come FROM grateful `member`s of the public, doctors who "adopt" entire hospital units and even other nurses.
