Erin Durga, a teacher in Minnesota, recently donated a kidney to her co-worker, school custodian Patrick Mertens. Mertens was diagnosed with kidney failure in February 2018 and learned that he needed a kidney transplant. By January 2020, with no donor in sight, Mertens's daughter grew concerned and posted on Facebook about the family's search for a kidney donor. Durga saw the post and was moved -- she wanted to help. Durga got tested, was a match, and the rest is history. Mertens has been able to resume his hobbies and is beyond grateful for the new lease on life. Mertens's wife Lynda said of Durga, She's our miracle. Our angel. We'll forever be grateful to her.
