Eddie Aldrete, a Starbucks barista, met Cole Haar, a 9-year-old boy with cancer, at the drive-through; Haar's mom Debbie stopped for coffee on the way to Cole's chemotherapy appointment, and Aldrete struck up a conversation. Debbie asked Aldrete for a favor: Would he tell Cole he's going to kick cancer's butt? Aldrete stepped up and gave such a moving pep talk that Cole wanted to return for that pep talk before and after each treatment. The two are now close friends, and Aldrete calls to check on Cole every day. They are so close that Cole once excitedly exclaimed, We should have Eddie move into our house. That hasn't happened yet, but Aldrete's family has also stepped up to support Cole by donating blood and being Cole's cheerleaders. Aldrete said, I don't think I've done anything phenomenal. It's just something that any human being should do. Just be kind.
