Daniela Herrera, a member of St. Julia, a Catholic church in North Carolina, where Mexican and other Latin American immigrants attend, has never missed one celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patron saint of Mexico. But this year, the celebration was compromised. Because of the coronavirus crisis, many churches had to cut down the number of people attending the celebration. But St. Julia's took a different approach. Putting a portrait of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the back of a pickup truck, Rev. Julio Martinez took the feast to the front yards of church members. As he says, "This year, instead of the people going on pilgrimage to the mother, it is the mother who goes on pilgrimage to her people." This was to Daniela's happiness. "It gives me such a great feeling of love to have received the Holy Mother at my home," she told NPR.
