Tyra Muhammad graduated from college nearly 30 years after she started her undergraduate studies. The 46-year-old mother of five graduated last month from Grambling State University, which she attended at the same time as three of her five children. Muhammad first started at Grambling State when she was 19. She met her husband, they started a family and she left school to care for the family. She became a certified nursing assistant and tried a few times to re-start her studies, but they always took second place to motherhood. In 2018, after some life changes, she felt ready to return to school. With her undergraduate degree in hand, Muhammad plans to return again to Grambling State for graduate work.
