Could an app that teaches you to meditate, learn about the power of vulnerability and other life skills -- and then rewards you with a gift card -- be too good to be true? Nope. The DreamKit app, created by Marina Marmolejo, incentivizes unstably-housed youth to learn and build life skills to help them become successful. “As a society, we do a really good job at tracking negative behaviors,” Marmolejo notes. “We don’t do a good job, at all, of shouting from the rooftops of how incredible our young people are.” Marmalejo takes a hands-on, actively involved approach to learning from the youth she serves, in order to make her app better but also to reach more youth in New Haven, Conn.
