In a quirky but cute custom, spaceships carry plush toys as zero gravity indicators because, once the toy is afloat, observers determine that the spaceship has left Earth's gravitational influence. The most recent such additional "crew member" onboard SpaceX's Crew-1 mission was a Baby Yoda toy, a character from "The Mandalorian." At times, these traditions also help in making children feel part of important space missions. For instance, in an earlier SpaceX flight, the toy (a plush dinosaur) was selected by the astronauts' sons!
