The Cambodian Ministry of Health announced recently that, in the first nine months of this year, there has been a 70 percent decrease in malaria cases compared with the same period last year. This is Cambodia's latest accomplishment since the country implemented a national strategy to eradicate the disease in 2011. In 2018, Cambodia achieved another record: no recorded deaths from malaria that year or anytime since. Cambodian nationals who do contract the disease have access to free treatment.
