This story starts with two men engaging in some friendly competition. Scott McKenzie learned to bake from scratch after being furloughed in April, and he posted pictures of his cookies on Facebook. His friend Jeremy Ulrich saw the pictures and did what any normal friend would do: challenge his buddy to a bake-off. They decided to let some frontline workers judge their treats, which resulted in the pair creating "Cookies for Caregivers," a Facebook group where residents can volunteer to bake for front-line workers. Now more than 100 bakers strong, the group has delivered more than 15,000 treats to workers at hospitals, grocery stores, fire departments and more. They plan to continue the effort for as long as they can. “There aren’t enough people to thank. Kindness doesn’t have an expiration date,” said McKenzie.
