Private donors have made it possible for 92 eligible countries to receive Covid vaccines, countries that would not be able to afford them without the $2 billion received in donations for the initiative. Another $5.3 billion will be needed for diagnostics and $6.1 billion for therapeutics will be needed in 2021 to ensure that vaccines are available not only to the wealthy in developing countries. Among others, the donors include the European Commission, France, Spain, South Korea and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
