The Duwamish River, labeled one of America's most toxic sites in 2001, has slowly been brought back to life through a lot of hard work over the last two decades. Positioned in the middle of the Industrial District in Seattle, locals have still fished this river and created the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition to help revive the water that is part of their lives. A new book by B.J. Cummings,The River That Made Seattle, highlights the history of the river. There is a real effort to ensure that industry and people can co-exist together; it is not a one-or-the-other option.
