Researchers at Leiden University in the Netherlands have 3D-printed the tiniest boat in the world. It is a 30-micrometer copy of Benchy the tug boat and is being used to examine micro swimmers, as they move through liquids. Bacteria and sperm are examples of these microscopic organisms. Researcher Daniela Kraft told Gizmondo that "3D Benchy is a structure that has been designed to test macroscopic 3D printers because it has several challenging features, and it was natural to also try it at the micrometer scale. In addition, making a swimming micrometer-sized boat is fun," she said.
