When the shelters shut down due to the pandemic, many homeless found refuge in hotels through a program funded by the federal government, Acadiana Regional Coalition on Homelessness and Housing (ARCH). During hotel stays, many are also finding help to navigate the system of assistance available to them through Beacon Community Connections. Many homeless are eligible for food stamps, housing assistance, social security, employment benefits and unemployment, but without the assistance that helps them understand the system, and without access to a computer, printer or money for postage, many can't take advantage of the resources available to them. Through the ARCH program, many were further connected to the Beacon Community Connections, which helped individuals understand and apply for those services.
