Scientists have discovered a detached coral reef measuring 500 meters (1,600 feet) in Australia's Great Barrier Reef. It is taller than many of the world's tallest skyscrapers, including the Empire State Building. It has been over 120 years since the first detached reef was discovered. "This unexpected discovery affirms we continue to find unknown structures and new species in our ocean," Wendy Schmidt, co-founder of the Schmidt Ocean Institute, told CNN Travel.
