When the minor league baseball season got canceled due to coronavirus, the Blue Wahoos in Pensacola, Fla., pivoted their business plan. "Our mission statement says to improve the quality of life for the community. It doesn't say to play baseball," says Quint Studer, Pensacola Blue Wahoos owner. Instead of firing or furloughing a single employee, the team management dug out a new business plan: offer all-access overnight stays at the stadium on AirBnB. The listing immediately took off. Designed to seat 4,000 cheering fans, the ocean-front stadium now hosts groups of up to 20 people a night, complete with hangout time in the team locker room, option to sleep in player bunks and playing on the field -- even with a personalized welcome sign on the scoreboard.
