While many stores are closing, IKEA is planning to open 50 stores worldwide in the next year. In addition to their expansion plans, they are also creating opportunities to meet their goal of becoming a "fully circular and climate-positive business by 2030." One way they plan to do this is through a buy-back program of certain furniture in exchange for IKEA store credit; some items may be exchanged for as much as 50% of the original retail value. The items will then be refurbished and resold if in good conditional, and the remainder will be recycled.
