Care Farms are striving to serve a broad spectrum of the population with mental health challenges by giving them the opportunity to work on the land. Richard, who asked that his surname not be used, found his way to Pathways Care Farm in Suffolk, UK, after years of trying different therapies, including stints in and out of mental health facilities. Two days a week he performed a variety of tasks at the farm with guidance from trained staff. He was in "a very dark place," he told Positive News. After 12 months in the program, he regained his confidence and mental stability. The support he received at the farm helped pave the way to his recovery. "I'm sure by now I'd have done another few months under lock and key if it wasn't for Pathways. It has been a shining light," he said.
