Laungi Bhuiyan, hailing from a remote village in Bihar, is one determined man. He has spent the last thirty years of his life, digging a 3 km long canal to channel the rainwater run-off from the hillsides to the fields surrounding his village. While the other villagers from this Maoist infested terrain moved away to the city in search of livelihoods, Laungi tended to his cattle and carried on with his lone endeavour to bring life-giving water to the animals and the crops in his village. “He is not doing it for his own benefit but for the entire area," says an appreciative fellow-villager.
