In February 2018, Hawaii-based photographer Doug Falter lost his surfboard when his leash unstrapped while surfing Waimea Bay in Hawaii. Despite reaching out to people on social media for help in finding his board, Falter had no luck. That is, until August 2020, when a school teacher from the Philippines contacted Falter to say he had found the surfboard, 5,200 miles away. The school teacher told Falter he had wanted to learn how to surf and was ecstatic to have found the board. As for Falter, he expressed his happiness that this surfboard has found a second life.
