A biodegradable face mask made from Abaca leaf fiber has been created by Philippines-based company Salay Handmade Products Industries, Inc. According the the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, this leaf, mainly known for its use in making tea bags, can be "...as strong as polyester." Early tests show these masks to be more effective than the N95 ones, giving people an environmentally friendly option for their PPEs.
