A flock of 20,000 multicolored origami birds has been installed in a cathedral in Brussels as part of a fundraiser that has paid for two COVID-19 units at a local hospital. The paper birds have come from around the globe, including Hong Kong, New York and Tokyo. The project is the brainchild of Belgian designer Charles Kaisin, who asked people to send in homemade birds or deposit them in boxes in shops around Brussels. Each bird was matched by a donation from companies such as French energy firm Engie and raised $119,744 to fund two units for Covid-19 patients at the Erasmus Hospital in Brussels.
