From chickens to donkeys to rabbits, cats, dogs, horses and even llamas, organizations and individuals are offering free shelter to animals displaced by the wildfires raging in the San Francisco Bay Area. Daly City's Cow Palace, likened to Noah's Ark, is housing animals. The Peninsula Humane Society and other shelters are also temporarily housing pets, as are private citizens. When people need help, the word spreads faster than the fires, says Beth Killough, a ranch owner who is temporarily housing 40 horses whose owners have fled due to the fires.
