Blake Sheffer started exhibiting heart problems at five weeks old. He was diagnosed with multiple conditions and made many trips to the hospital in his 1.5 years of life. In June, after having six seizures in a day, Blake was admitted to the hospital and had to stay in his crib in the same position for 3-4 days. Being immobilewastaking a toll on the toddler untilpediatric techQuanda Riles noticed and cared enough to do something about it. Riles bonded with Blake immediately. She made it a point to come into his room 3-5 times each of her shifts and have a dance party with Blake and sing to him. Blake's mom, Lauren, says they had to start leaving the door open because Blake would be looking for Riles all day long and light up when he saw her. Riles says she wants all her patients to know someone cares about them.
