Scientists in Hong Kong have taken matters into their own hands to address a vexing problem: the dying off of coral reefs. Architects and marine scientists at the University of Hong Kong teamed up to design a solution to the problem -- 3D-printed artificial reef tiles. They have implanted some of these tiles in the Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park in Hong Kong. The artificial eco-friendly tiles will provide a useful, structurally complex foundation for coral attachment. The study includes three coral species, which will create a diverse habitat for other marine species.
