At just 5-years-old, Nashat Cassim and his family migrated to Toronto from Sri Lanka, and he and his family made a new home in Regent Park. Cassim recalls two junior teachers from his school coming by to visit with school supplies, encouragement and advice just before starting school. Thirty years after moving to Canada, Cassim posted a flower pot for sale in the Facebook Marketplace and got an offer from someone with a familiar name. After an exchange with the woman, Karen Ayotte, wheels started turning. Cassim was delighted to discover that Ayotte had been one of the teachers that had come by to support Cassim and his family. "I don't know if I'd be where I am today without them giving me that foundation," Cassim Says.
