On July 28th, Mattel released its 2020 campaign team -- featuring a black female candidate for president. Barbie leads a dream team that includes her campaign manager, the fundraiser and a voter. The company's hope for the four dolls is to expose girls to public leadership roles. "With less than a third of elected leaders in the US being women, and Black women being even less represented in these positions, we designed the Barbie Campaign Team with a diverse set of dolls to show all girls they can raise their voices," Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and global head of Barbie & Dolls, said in a press release. This is Mattel's seventh presidential Barbie; the company has released a new one each election year since 1992, CNN Business reports.
