Cupertino High School student Nitya Devisetti saw a need in her community and she stood up to meet it. Noticing the gaps and detachment of people in this Covid-19 time of physical distancing and isolation, she urged the people around her to come together to support one other -- and gave them a way to do so. Devisetti founded the nonprofit Ma(s)king a Difference. Their goal is to provide personal protective equipment (PPE), such as masks, and notes of gratitude and encouragement to health care and emergency workers. It's working. The organization has now made more than 2,000 home-sewn masks. It has volunteers of all ages and has grown 14 other chapters in other states and 3 in other countries.
